Title: Inuktitut Translator

🎯 Description

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq, the school board serving the 14 communities of Nunavik, is seeking an Inuktitut Translator. Reporting to the Secretary General, the successful candidate will be responsible for accurately translating various administrative and pedagogical documents intended for students, teachers, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately translate written, audio, and visual documents, particularly educational material.
  • Perform proofreading and editing when required.
  • Provide interpretation services during meetings to support effective communication in Inuktitut, English, or French.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure linguistic consistency across documents.
  • Meet deadlines and ensure high-quality linguistic output.
  • Travel upon request as part of work duties.

💰 Salary

Annual salary ranging from $54,022 to $86,621, based on experience and qualifications, in accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement (job class 2140).

Required experience and qualifications

 

Qualifications

  • Translation certificate or diploma and/or 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Note: Kativik Ilisarniliriniq may give priority to beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA), even if they do not meet the above qualifications, provided they agree to complete required training.

Requirements

  • Excellent proficiency in spoken and written Inuktitut.
  • Proficiency in English or French.
  • Knowledge of education-related terminology.
  • Strong computer skills, including Adobe, Microsoft Word, and desktop publishing tools.
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to travel when required.
