Janitor and building gardian for the community environment

Job description

Under the supervision of the Living Environment Operations Coordinator at SIRCAAQ, the Janitor and Building Guardian in Chibougamau is responsible for the upkeep and supervision of a residential complex that includes 16 student apartments (42 rooms) and community spaces.

Working closely with the Rental Agent – Tenant Experience Manager, the position ensures the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of the building and its surroundings. Duties include managing service requests and work orders, coordinating subcontractors, preparing units for new tenants, performing basic repairs and maintenance (including minor plumbing and electrical work), completing seasonal outdoor tasks such as snow removal and lawn care, and supporting preventive maintenance planning.

The role also includes safety responsibilities, such as enforcing building rules, ensuring emergency systems are functional, managing keys and parking permits, conducting regular patrols, and responding to incidents or emergencies when required, including evenings and weekends on an on-call basis.

Required experience and qualifications

Education and experience

• Hold a vocational training diploma in a relevant field, combined with a minimum of two (2)
years of experience in a similar position;
• Experience with essential mechanical systems in a building, such as plumbing, heating,
ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) (an asset);
• Knowledge of Indigenous realities;
• Ability to communicate orally in French and English;
• First aid and AED certification (or obtained within the first few months of employment).
