Job description

🎯 Description: The Victims Advocacy Worker develops, promotes, and implements educational initiatives to raise community awareness of victim issues. This role advocates for victims’ rights, provides technical support, and contributes to the development of reports, policies, and funding proposals for the Ionkwatahónhsate Victims Services program.

Roles & Responsibilities:
Education and Awareness:

  • Identify, plan, organize, and deliver presentations, training, conferences, and other educational initiatives.

  • Develop and publicize educational materials on victims’ rights and issues.

  • Collaborate with the Victims Support Worker on educational curriculum content and delivery.

  • Share information with the community via reports and publications.

  • Stay updated on legislative amendments, policy developments, and best practices.

Victims’ Rights Advocacy:

  • Promote Ionkwatahónhsate Victims Services within and outside the community.

  • Raise awareness of the personal impacts of crime.

  • Meet with community service providers to discuss victims’ needs.

  • Collaborate and liaise with internal departments and external governments on victims’ issues, rights, and remedies.

  • Participate in committees and meetings regarding victims’ issues.

  • Provide information, court preparation, accompaniment, technical assistance, and referrals as needed.

Research and Development:

  • Develop guidelines, manuals, policies, procedures, and protocols.

  • Research and submit external grant and funding proposals.

  • Analyze and document existing systems to standardize and improve efficiency.

  • Research best practices and benchmarking models.

  • Act as a technical resource and participate in Kahnawà:ke Justice Commission meetings.

  • Conduct surveys and needs analyses to ensure programs meet community needs.

💰 Salary: $1,119.75 – $1,511.62 per week (37.5 hours/week)

Required experience and qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field, or in social sciences, with 1 year of relevant experience
    OR

  • DEC in social work or related field, or social sciences, with 3 years of relevant experience

  • Understanding of victims’ rights, remedies, court processes, and related issues.

  • Knowledge of Kahnawà:ke justice programs and applicable legislation.

  • Good judgment, problem-solving, and strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Project management, presentation, and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to negotiate and secure funding.

  • Planning, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Professionalism, discretion, and respect in internal and external relations.

  • Ability to communicate in Kanien’kéha and French is an asset; willingness to learn Kanien’kéha.
