🎯 Description:

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is seeking a dedicated Public Relations Specialist – Political to lead communications efforts aligned with the political priorities of the Council of Chiefs. This full-time, permanent position plays a key role in strategic messaging, media relations, and stakeholder engagement in support of MCK’s public affairs.

✅ Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute political public relations strategies that align with the Council of Chiefs’ priorities.

  • Draft press releases, public statements, speaking notes, and other official communications.

  • Serve as spokesperson and manage media relations on behalf of MCK.

  • Advise the Council of Chiefs on public messaging and strategic communications.

  • Participate in Council strategy sessions as a public relations advisor.

  • Collaborate with the Public Relations Unit (PRU) to ensure consistency in communications.

  • Lead public engagement initiatives and align them with the MCK Community Engagement Policy.

  • Coordinate communication platforms including radio, TV reports, press briefings, and digital media.

  • Conduct research and analyze public opinion to inform communications strategies.

  • Ensure information is distributed in line with MCK policies and protocols.

💰 Salary:

$65,227.50 to $73,690.50 annually, based on experience

Required experience and qualifications

⭐ Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, or related field, with 3 years of relevant experience
    OR

  • DEC in Public Relations or Communications, with 5 years of relevant experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent public speaking and media relations capabilities

  • Knowledge of First Nations governance and political affairs

  • Experience in a political environment is considered an asset

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and multimedia platforms

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset; knowledge of Kanien’kéha is a strong advantage

  • Must maintain discretion and confidentiality
