Mining Analyst

Job description

Eligibility for Remote Work : 100% remote
Starting salary: between $71,065 and $102,988

* You will support First Nations in relation to mining projects on their territories. This support will include analyzing mining projects, delivering training, and preparing for and supporting the negotiation of agreements
* You will contribute to organizing both virtual and in-person events to bring First Nations together around issues related to the mining industry. You will also develop informational and educational tools on the mining sector and mineral resources, intended for all First Nations
* All of this will be carried out in collaboration with your colleagues at the FNQLSDI, our partners within First Nations communities and organizations, as well as external partners

Responsibilities
* Research and analyze information related to complex issues and strategic questions involving mining projects
* Provide strategic and operational advice, conclusions, and recommendations for First Nations based on research and analysis
* Participate in the preparation and negotiation of contracts and Impact and Benefit Agreements with First Nations organizations and external partners
* Prepare information materials, training content, presentations, and analytical reports, and present them in clear, accessible language as needed
* Collaborate with a range of stakeholders and partners to achieve shared objectives
* Represent the organization at events related to mining issues
* Monitor developments and maintain ongoing intelligence on mining-related topics
* Actively contribute to the development of project proposals and funding applications
* Prepare regular progress reports, presenting results achieved and ensuring effective follow-up once the project is completed
* Organize in-person and virtual events for First Nations
* Contribute to discussions and reflections on Quebec’s mining regime with partners
* Participate in government meetings related to mining

Required experience and qualifications

Do you have what it takes?
* University degree in geology, mining engineering, earth sciences, environmental studies, or a related field
* 3–5 years of experience in the mining sector or a related field
* Availability to travel to communities across Quebec and Labrador approximately once per month
* Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
* Excellent communication skills both in French and English, spoken and written
* Experience working with First Nations (a strong asset)
* Knowledge of an Indigenous language (an asset)
