📌 Position Title: Kanien’kéha Program Assistant – Language and Culture Training Program
🎯 Job Description:
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is seeking a Kanien’kéha Program Assistant to provide administrative and operational support for the Language and Culture Training Program. Reporting to the General Manager, this role involves supporting daily operations, organizing classes and events, and ensuring effective communication and program continuity, with a strong focus on revitalizing and promoting the Kanien’kéha language.
🧠 Responsibilities:
Program & Administrative Support
Assist in planning, coordinating, and evaluating the Five-Year Language and Culture Program
Support daily program operations and events
Maintain student files, class schedules, meeting calendars, and program documentation
Handle phone inquiries, emails, supplies, invoices, and reports
Represent the General Manager in their absence
Prepare curriculum materials, workshop documents, and reports
Community Engagement & Cultural Advocacy
Organize and promote internal and community engagement activities
Maintain and support the Tewahará:tat Tsi Niionkwarihò:ten Network
Support revitalization efforts and participate in events
🗓️ Duration:
Indeterminate, Full-Time
Six (6) Month Probation Period
💰 Salary:
$45,162.00 to $51,012.00 per year
🕒 Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday
8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
37.5 hours per week

Required experience and qualifications
🎓 Education & Experience (Choose one of the following):
DEP in Secretarial Studies + 1 year of relevant experience + Kanien’kéha Intermediate-Low fluency
High School Diploma + 3 years of relevant experience + Kanien’kéha Intermediate-Low fluency
Graduate of the Ratiwennahní:rats Immersion Program with computer literacy
🛠️ Required Skills & Attributes:
Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, OneDrive, SharePoint)
Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills
Minute-taking, scheduling, and database management
Cultural sensitivity, confidentiality, and team collaboration
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage time effectively
Fluency in Kanien’kéha (Intermediate-Low) is required
Valid Quebec Driver’s License is required
Willingness to learn Kanien’kehá:ka Cultural Teachings
🌍 Work Environment:
5-day workweek in an office setting
Occasional physical or outdoor activities
Occasional overtime or travel
Exposure to confidential or culturally sensitive matters
