Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Indigenous Initiatives (DII) and working closely with the Senior Advisor, Indigenous Curriculum and Pedagogy, the Indigenous Projects Officer will develop and manage projects aimed at enhancing Indigenous educational pathways and supporting increased opportunities for culturally informed learning at McGill. This role focuses on Indigenous student and community engagement, developing comprehensive models that reflect financial and non-financial resources to recruit, retain, and support Indigenous students through graduation. The Officer will also play a key role in developing and managing projects that foster stronger relationships with Indigenous communities to ensure that student engagement with Elders, cultural knowledge holders, community experts, etc. is based on mutual respect and relationality.

Required experience and qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
3-5 years of related experience, preferably with Indigenous communities.
Skills and Competencies

Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures and educational contexts.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Proven experience in event and program development.
Demonstrated project management skills.
Commitment to advancing Indigenous initiatives.
Effective listener and communicator.
Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to develop, collaborate, and build positive, supportive and respectful relationships with colleagues and Indigenous communities.
Experience with multimedia projects and grant management.
Ability to evaluate programs and incorporate feedback.
Skills in developing accessible and inclusive programs.
