Job description

The Follow-up Officer works in partnership with local stakeholders to follow up with participants in the FNHRDCQ’s employability and training measures. To this end, the incumbent acts as a contact person for participants, promoters, training centre staff and employers. They prepare and verify required documents and facilitate the flow of information between participants and stakeholders. They work closely with the Employment Counsellor to assess client progress and share relevant information.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure regular contact with participants in a training and/or employability measure to supervise, motivate, and support them;
  • Encourage participants to attend class and/or work;
  • Help participants identify barriers that prevent them from completing the proposed measures, and help them find and implement solutions;
  • Visit educational institutions and/or businesses and provide them with personalized services to find ways to facilitate the integration and progress of participants;
  • Identify relevant local resources and develop a support network to help participants with academic, family, social and personal issues;
  • Ensure that participants comply with the objectives of the action plan agreed with the Employment Counsellor as part of their training or employability measure;
  • Ensure that the measure is in line with the participant’s action plan and the tripartite agreement and notify the relevant stakeholders of any non-compliance;
  • Monitor clients’ progress (e.g., academic results, attendance report, action plan, etc.) and guide them, as needed, in reaching their training and/or employability goals;
  • Manage participants’ attendance and reasons for absence, and, in case of non-compliance, apply the Attendance Policy.

Required experience and qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Fluent in spoken and written French and English;
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in training and/or employment;
  • Relevant employment and training experience with Indigenous clientele;
  • Diploma of college studies in special education or in a field relevant to the helping relation; or
  • Attestation of college studies combined with training and/or employment experience;
  • Knowledge of standard software, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), the Internet and others.

KEY SKILLS

  • Good understanding of the reality of urban Indigenous clients, and of Indigenous structures and institutions;
  • Thorough knowledge of the labour market, school and community environments, and programs and services offered;
  • Excellent counselling and helping relation techniques, and ability to solve complex issues;
  • Good knowledge of assistance referral programs and services;
  • Ability to build relationships with different stakeholders and to work as part of a team;
  • Strong sense of responsibility and work organization skills;
  • Good time management skills and ability to work under pressure.
