Job description

The Employment Development Officer assists Indigenous clients in obtaining sustainable employment. To do so, the incumbent consults the clients, businesses and organizations to identify their employment needs. They are proactive in establishing various socio-economic partnerships and attend meetings of the various committees. They find the necessary resources and develop the relevant tools to promote the employability of their clients. The officer is also responsible for promoting the services and measures to employers and the target clientele.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Keep abreast of the labour market to find employment opportunities that meet clients’ needs;
  • Collaborate with the various committees to assess the needs and expectations of clients, businesses and organizations in terms of employability;
  • Target the human resources needs of businesses and define their hiring criteria to prepare the Indigenous clientele for employment;
  • Form new partnerships with potential employers and strengthen existing ones to promote urban services and measures and find new employment opportunities for clients;
  • Develop a contact network and maintain good relations with partners who can help clients with their employability needs (e.g., ETSC, Emploi-Québec, LDC, etc.);
  • Match Indigenous job seekers with available job opportunities by guiding and informing them of the various employment fields;
  • Participate in networking activities with the Urban Services’ partners;
  • Raise awareness among employers about Indigenous realities and dispel the prejudices faced by urban Indigenous people.

Required experience and qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Fluent in spoken and written French and English;
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in training and/or employment;
  • Relevant employment and training experience with Indigenous clientele;
  • Diploma of college studies or university degree in social sciences, social work, or another relevant field;
  • Knowledge of standard software, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), the Internet and others.

KEY SKILLS

  • Good understanding of the reality of urban Indigenous clients, and of Indigenous structures and institutions;
  • Thorough knowledge of the labour market, school and community environments, and programs and services offered;
  • Good written and oral communication skills, including researching, writing, analyzing and disseminating information;
  • Ability to build relationships with different stakeholders and to work as part of a team;
  • Strong sense of responsibility and work organization;
  • Good time management skills and ability to work under pressure.
