Sewage Plant Operator / Maintenance Worker
Job description
🎯 Job Overview:
Reporting to the Supervisor of Infrastructure Operations and Maintenance, the Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the Kahnawà:ke Sewage Treatment Plant and the main Lift Station. This includes performing technical, maintenance, and janitorial duties to ensure safety and efficiency.
✅ Responsibilities:
Plant Operation:
Monitor magnetic flow meters, chemical pumps, oil levels, pressures, and sewage consistency.
Analyze effluent clarity and sludge characteristics.
Inspect motors and pump gearboxes for irregularities.
Monitor chemical levels and schedule restocking.
Laboratory Testing:
Sample wastewater and conduct tests for COD, phosphorus, ammonia, pH, and TSS.
Determine moisture content in sludge cakes.
Analyze data from computerized systems and adjust chemical dosages as needed.
Record daily electrical consumption.
Janitorial & General Maintenance:
Monthly: Clean mixers, laminar plates, scum tanks, grit removal augers, etc.
Weekly: Wash windows, plant floors, offices, bathrooms, screens, and seasonal exterior upkeep (e.g., mowing, snow clearing).
Lift Station #1:
Perform daily inspections on 4 main pumps.
Check motor temperatures, vibration, oil levels, and clean impellers as needed.

According to current salary scale

Required experience and qualifications
⭐ Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Option 1: DEC in Water Treatment Plant Operation + 1 year of relevant experience
Option 2: High School Diploma + 3 years of relevant experience
Asset: Completion of a Water Plant Operator Training Program
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong math skills to interpret gauge readings.
Good understanding of chemicals and dosages.
Basic mechanical skills for servicing pumps and equipment.
Familiarity with Kahnawà:ke’s water and sewage infrastructure.
Ability to read technical manuals and write technical reports.
Highly autonomous and able to work with minimal supervision.
Tactful, respectful, and discreet with clients and colleagues.
Confidentiality is essential.
Assets:
Knowledge of Kanien’kéha and French.
Willingness to learn the Kanien’kéha language.
