Job description

The Indigenous Health Professions Program (IHPP) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at McGill University invites applications for an Outreach Administrator position.

• Plan, develop and implement IHPP outreach activities for northern-focused outreach (i.e. James Bay and Nunavik)
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders from outside the Faculty within McGill
• Recruit Indigenous students into health fields by developing strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous health professionals, prospective Indigenous students, Indigenous health and education organizations, Indigenous community members, Indigenous communities and McGill partners
• With the IHPP team, develop and implement an outreach strategy for northern regions to encourage the training of Indigenous students in a variety of different health profession programs
• Report of outreach activities to IHPP Program Manager on a quarterly basis. Generate reports (other than outreach activities), at the request of the Program Manager and/or Program Director
• Identify and provide appropriate student services for prospective and registered Indigenous students in health profession programs
• Organize annual visits to Indigenous communities, primarily within the McGill Réseau Universitaire Intégré de Santé et Services Sociaux (RUISSS), including schools, health facilities and organizations, CEGEPs, Indigenous educational conferences and adult education centres in Northern Regions
• Ensure appropriate inclusion of and sensitivity to Indigenous culture in all activities.
• Work with guidance counsellors, educators in local schools, Elders, and local organizations to establish contacts within Indigenous communities in Quebec to promote higher education
• Collaborate with other Faculties and Schools on the development of new workshops, seminars, information sessions, and/or resources on topics related to Indigenous health and accessing post-secondary education
• Support ongoing initiatives such as Eagle Spirit Science Futures and mentoring programs.
• Contribute to budget requests and annual reports to funding agencies; collaborate with University Advancement for philanthropic outreach toward Indigenous project support
• Participate in inter-university and national meetings regarding post-secondary education access and support of Indigenous students in collaboration with the Program Manager and/or Program Director
• Participate in the evaluation process of the outreach initiatives as needed.

Required experience and qualifications

Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent organizational skills and professional conduct
• Written and oral communication skills in an Indigenous language an asset (Inuktitut)
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written communication skills in English and French)
• Ability to work independently
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently and to remote locations
