🎯 Overview:
Champlain College Saint-Lambert is seeking a full-time Indigenous Student Life Counsellor for a temporary position within the Student Services Department. The role includes part-time work in Indigenous communities and is part of a specific project with the possibility of renewal.
✅ Responsibilities:
Manage the Indigenous Student Resource Centre.
Act as a liaison with local Indigenous communities and education institutions.
Provide guidance on academic success plans and support services.
Assist with student applications, registration, course selection, and access to community resources.
Develop and maintain transition programming for post-secondary success.
Organize personal development workshops focused on Indigenous wellness.
Plan and host cultural and social events in collaboration with staff and community partners.
Coordinate educational and cultural workshops with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
Support college staff in understanding Indigenous student needs and success strategies.
Supervise and mentor Indigenous student ambassadors.
Support the Champlain Certificate in Indigenous Studies and Decolonization.
Assist in the delivery of Indigenous language courses in community settings.
Support the Indigenous Advisory Committee.
Assist the Admissions Office with Indigenous outreach and campus activities.
💰 Salary: $53,529 – $88,795 annually (full-time), based on experience.
Required experience and qualifications
⭐ Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in sociology, applied human sciences, Indigenous studies, or equivalent training recognized by an appropriate Indigenous authority.
Proven experience and connection with Indigenous communities.
Strong understanding of Indigenous values, culture, and education issues.
Ability to create inclusive and supportive learning environments.
Team-oriented with the ability to work independently and manage priorities.
Excellent communication skills in English (working language).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of an Indigenous language is an asset.
Preference will be given to Indigenous applicants.
