About the Position

Under the direction of the Head of Technical Operations, the Exhibit Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring an engaging and immersive experience for visitors. This position contributes to the success of exhibitions through technical expertise, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to preserving and presenting natural and cultural heritage.

Main Responsibilities:

✔️ Maintenance of exhibitions, including cabinetry repairs, mount adjustments, and cleaning of display cases.
✔️ Installation and de-installation of permanent, temporary, and special exhibitions.
✔️ Safe handling of artifacts.
✔️ Use of a variety of tools and equipment for exhibition installations.
✔️ Interpretation of floorplans for precise placement of exhibition elements.
✔️ Refurbishing and remediating exhibition elements to maintain quality and visitor experience.
✔️ Assisting in the workshop’s reorganization and sustainability initiatives.
✔️ Maintaining audio-visual equipment (an asset).
✔️ Flexible schedule to accommodate the Museum’s daily operations, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Required experience and qualifications

Eligibility Criteria

This position is open to all employees of the Canadian Museum of Nature and members of the public who meet the following qualifications.

Education & Training:

📚 Completion of post-secondary education in Design, Construction or Carpentry, Theatre Production/Set Design, Museum Studies, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Language Requirements:

🔹 English or French required
🔹 Bilingualism (English & French) is considered an asset.

Experience Required:

✅ Hands-on experience in physically installing and dismantling exhibitions.
✅ Proven experience in maintaining exhibition elements (cabinetry repairs, mount adjustments, cleaning display cases).
✅ Skilled in using a variety of tools and equipment for exhibition installations.
✅ Experience in safely handling artifacts.
✅ Ability to interpret and follow floorplans for precise exhibition setups.
✅ Experience in refurbishing and remediating exhibition elements.
✅ Experience maintaining audio-visual equipment (an asset).
✅ Prior experience working in a museum environment (an asset).

Working Conditions

🕖 Regular working hours start at 7:00 AM.
📅 Weekend work may be required.
💪 Ability to lift/move heavy objects (up to 25 kg).
