Director, Indigenous Initiatives
Job description
Under the supervision of the Associate Provost (Indigenous Initiatives) the Director, Indigenous Initiatives will provide efficient and effective administrative oversight to the Office of Indigenous Initiatives, in support of the advancement of truth and reconciliation and broader Indigenization efforts, and in accordance with the unit’s goals and objectives, while ensuring coherence with the University’s mission and culture. The Director will plan, develop and implement administrative processes and policies for the unit, inclusive of its key areas of advancing Indigenous student success, student support, advancing Indigenous physical representation and symbolic recognition, and building capacity through strategic communications and awareness efforts. The Director will serve as a key liaison with other administrative units and with external organizations to support the advancement of McGill’s 52 Calls to Action. The incumbent will support activities related to general administration including, but not limited to finance, human resources, communications, and physical resources. The Director will manage ministry grant development and reporting, Indigenous contracts and other formal relationships of the unit.
Required experience and qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree 8 Years Related Experience
Experience working with First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples (and communities and expertise in issues faced by Indigenous peoples and communities in Canada)
Demonstrated interest in and commitment to furthering reconciliation with Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples
Established and extended network of contacts in First Nation, Inuit and urban Indigenous communities, provincially and nationally.
Strong political acumen and proven ability to influence senior stakeholders.
Demonstrated ease and efficiency in meeting the communications needs of senior executives.
Outstanding communication skills and a proven ability to communicate effectively and strategically on behalf of senior leaders.
Demonstrated ability to address issues and crises with collegiality and poise.
Superior people-management skills, team spirit, and ability to inspire and mobilize staff.
