🎯 Job Description
The Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all human resources functions at the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke. Working closely with senior leadership and the Council of Chiefs, this role develops and implements people strategies aligned with organizational goals, fostering a positive, inclusive workplace culture while ensuring legislative compliance and organizational effectiveness.
✅ Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive human resources strategy aligned with organizational objectives
Act as a trusted strategic advisor to senior leadership and the Council of Chiefs on people, culture, and change management
Lead workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational design initiatives
Oversee HR policies, employee relations, investigations, and disciplinary processes
Ensure compliance with employment standards, labour legislation, occupational health and safety, privacy, and human rights laws
Direct recruitment, onboarding, engagement, retention, and offboarding strategies
Lead performance management frameworks, leadership development, and training initiatives
Oversee compensation structures, benefits programs, and retirement or pension plans
Manage HR information systems (HRIS) and HR data to support decision-making
Oversee payroll administration in collaboration with the Finance department
Promote and support workplace health, safety, and wellness programs
Manage the HR unit’s operations, budget, and staff
Act as a neutral mediator for employee concerns and complaints
Monitor emerging HR trends and proactively adapt HR strategies
Collaborate with Legal Services on HR-related matters as required
💰 Salary
$97,822.40 to $110,510.40 per year
(40 hours per week)
Indeterminate, full-time position with a 12-month probation period
Required experience and qualifications
⭐ Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field
Minimum 8–10 years of progressive HR experience, including senior leadership responsibilities
Demonstrated experience in strategic HR planning
Assets:
Master’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or Organizational Development
Professional HR designation (CHRP, CHRL, CHRE, or equivalent)
Strong knowledge of employment and labour legislation
Proven leadership, coaching, and people management skills
Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities
High ethical standards, professionalism, and discretion
Cultural awareness and commitment to inclusive practices
Ability to communicate in Kanien’kéha and/or French (asset)
Willingness to learn the Kanien’kéha language
