Communications Manager
Job description
*Regular full-time position
**Open to First Nations and Inuit candidates only
• Support the board of directors, the executive director and the management team in developing the strategic communications plan, carrying out targeted initiatives and managing external relations (e.g., crisis communication, press relations, and acting as a
spokesperson).
• Serve as a communications resource for communities and organizations during theme days or other community events.
• Monitor the social communications and marketing landscape for strategic trends in activities, best practices and technology.
• Help define strategic objectives and annual priorities based on strategic planning, and supervise the implementation of departmental and individual work plans, as well as their alignment with other departments and external partners.
• Develop event and public relations strategies.
• Help draft administrative documents, such as work plans, funding applications and reports. Additionally, design, implement and assess a communications analysis process using key performance indicators.
• Manage the team and contribute to skills development in a collaborative spirit aligned with the organization’s mission, values and culture.
• Champion the interests of First Nations by ensuring their full participation in consultation processes and by providing recommendations based on a thorough analysis of their needs, interests and key issues.
• Oversee the internal committee responsible for coordinating the Annual General Assembly.
• Coordinate and lead meetings under their purview, and take part in regional and national committees and events deemed strategically important by the organization.
Required experience and qualifications
• Belong to a First Nation or be Inuit.
• Bachelor’s degree in communications or a relevant field.
• Five to seven years’ experience in communications or a relevant field (public relations, social marketing, etc.).
• Five to seven years’ experience in management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and digital communication tools (Adobe suite, WordPress, newsletter tools, social media, etc.).
• Knowledge and understanding of First Nations cultures.
• Excellent command of French and English (spoken and written).
• Willing to travel.
• A valid driver’s licence.

Salary
The gross annual salary is between $95,204.20 and $117,280.80 and varies according to the candidate’s experience.
