Architectural Technician

JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recognized for the quality of its products and services, the Old Port of Montréal Corporation manages a vast recreational and cultural site at the crossroads of a city and its river. Reporting to the Old Port of Montréal Corporation’s Maintenance and Construction Manager, the incumbent’s main responsibility is to coordinate the work carried out by the general contractor. He/she provides technical input and manages projects in line with the needs of maintenance and internal customers. In addition, he/she is responsible for ensuring that assigned projects meet deadlines and costs.

Administrative (25%)

Ensures administrative management of projects;
Documents technical problems encountered during work;
Researches documentation relating to existing buildings (plans, reports, etc.);
Supports internal customers in the orientation and implementation of maintenance projects and ensures their satisfaction.

Technical support (25%)

Carries out dimensional and photographic surveys;
Updates drawings;
Produces technical construction drawings in compliance with standards and internal customer expectations;
Calculates the quantity of materials needed for projects and estimates the cost of replacements or major repairs, based on plans and other documents;
Proposes solutions to technical problems and anomalies encountered, and establishes intervention priorities;
Carries out technical feasibility studies;
Updates as-built drawings, operating, maintenance, training and other manuals on completion of work;
Updates knowledge related to his/her field;
Assists his/her superior and the department in any other tasks assigned to him/her;
Manages and responds to SVPM workspace design requests;
Follows up on the preventive maintenance program (PEP);
Participates in bi-annual asset inspections (buildings and fleet).

Maintenance and construction project coordination (50%)

Plans projects in collaboration with the client (needs analysis) and ensures that all aspects of the project are taken into account;
Schedules and monitors work completion (cost, quality) and produces periodic progress reports for the teams concerned;
Coordinates work execution with suppliers (general and specialized contractors);
Ensures compliance with building codes, municipal by-laws and other technical reports and documents related to its projects;
Negotiates additional price requests from contractors and consultants;
Approves suppliers’ time sheets;
Provides solutions to various problems communicated by various project stakeholders;
Adheres to company standards, norms and procedures;
Ensures systems comply with established construction, safety and environmental standards;
Monitors work progress and conducts site visits;
Ensures that projects remain on schedule and within budget..

Required experience and qualifications

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

College studies in architectural technology or other training deemed equivalent
2 years’ experience in maintenance and construction
Extensive drafting experience
Experience in project management support
Computer skills: Office Suite, Autocad, Sketchup (an asset)
In-depth knowledge of blueprint reading and specification interpretation
Excellent knowledge of building and construction codes and regulations
Knowledge of English (intermediate level)
Valid driver’s license
