Position Title: Sports and Recreation Junior Generalist (Summer Student)
Employer: Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke – Sports and Recreation Unit
Location: Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Territory
Duration:
Two (2) positions: June 23 – August 15, 2025 (8 weeks)
Two (2) positions: June 16 – August 15, 2025 (9 weeks)
Status: Fixed-Term, Full-Time
Salary: $16.25/hour (KSSEP High School Rate – Level B)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (30 hours/week)

Job Summary
Join the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke’s Sports and Recreation team this summer! As a Sports and Recreation Junior Generalist, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of community recreational facilities including the Kahnawà:ke Beach, Mini Putt, parks, and the Sports Complex. You will also help with facility maintenance, concession services, and visitor safety. This is an excellent opportunity to gain work experience in community service, facility management, and customer interaction.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and assist visitors at the Kahnawà:ke Beach and Mini Putt
Ensure safety protocols and emergency procedures are followed
Handle concession sales and maintain sales logs
Maintain and sanitize recreational equipment and facilities
Perform daily maintenance: mowing, watering, seeding, raking, and landscaping
Support the opening/closing of seasonal sports facilities
Assist in inspections and safety checks of playgrounds and fields
Record shift logs and report incidents appropriately
Deliver basic recreation activities or demonstrations (e.g., ping pong, mini golf)
Practice and promote a safe, respectful, and clean working environment
Required experience and qualifications
Qualifications
Must be registered with the 2025 Tewatohnhi’saktha KSSEP Program
Must be a student currently enrolled in high school, CEGEP, or university and returning in fall 2025
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required
Knowledge of water safety and basic rescue skills
Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Must be physically able to lift/move up to 25 pounds
Skills & Assets
Strong sense of responsibility and work ethic
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to act quickly in safety-related situations
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Familiarity with Kanien’kéha and/or French is an asset
Interest in learning the Kanien’kéha language is encouraged
