Mandate
* The person will analyze the various freshwater protection initiatives from a political, technical and legal point of view. He/she will work closely with the communities on the various water-related issues in order to develop strategies. He/she will make recommendations to the various levels of government based on First Nations priorities. He/she will take part in regional and national committees. He/she will also contribute to various freshwater and environmental projects within the team.
Main responsibilities
* Conduct in-depth research and analysis on strategic and complex issues and use that research to provide First Nations with well-founded advice and recommendations.
* Prepare a variety of informative communications, including letters, briefing notes, presentations, and analytical reports.
* Work closely with a range of stakeholders and partners to achieve common goals.
* Help draft funding applications and prepare and negotiate contracts with external partners.
Required experience and qualifications
Do you have what it takes?
* Relevant experience in policy analysis, preferably in an Indigenous context
* Excellent research and analytical skills
* Ability to work effectively with various stakeholders and build trusting relationships with First Nations and other partners
* Knowledge of political and socioeconomic issues affecting First Nations
* University degree in political science, Indigenous studies, law, public administration, or a related field (asset)
