Job description

Intent of the process
The current need is to staff a term position. The position is in Saint-Hyacinthe and must be occupied from this location.

A pool of qualified candidates will be established. This pool may be used to staff positions with similar qualifications, with various language requirements, various conditions of employment and/or various tenures including term appointments, indeterminate appointments, acting appointments and/or assignments.

Positions to be filled: Number to be determined

Duties
The main activities may vary and include the following:
• Ship inspections
• Peatland inspections
• Biological surveys
• Import inspections
• Export inspections
• Agricultural machinery inspections

In relation to the tasks, here are the main conditions:
• Be able to descend into a hold (up to 40 feet) using a straight ladder (rappelling).
• Work on the road, be able to drive for several hours a day in sometimes difficult environmental conditions.
• Walk on uneven terrain with irregular reliefs for several hours.
• Be able to work in confined spaces, be able to bend under machinery (checking for contamination in agricultural machinery).
• Walk a long distance with a ladder and equipment for biological surveys.

Required experience and qualifications

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
EEd1 – For individuals who are currently employees of CFIA, or who have inspection experience with CFIA or its precursor departments:
• Completion of post-secondary education specializing in relevant technical sciences OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

For individuals who are not current or former employees of CFIA:
• Completion of post-secondary education specializing in relevant technical sciences.

CFIA Operations will apply a preference for:
• University graduation with specialization in a field related to the functions of the position.

Applicants submitting education credentials from a non-Canadian institution are responsible for obtaining certification that these credentials are the equivalent of the Canadian education level required for the position.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
EE1 – Experience in the plant protection sector (experience gained from your study program may also be accepted).

ASSET EDUCATION
AEd1 – Completion of post-secondary education specializing in the plant science field.
