Task
• The person will work in the Asset Management team, which has twenty trades and maintenance employees, and will report directly to the supervisor. As the only painter on the Québec City team, he/she must have acquired relevant experience enabling them to work independently. The person will carry out painting work to maintain and repair structures, industrial buildings, and other assets in the Québec field unit’s national historic sites. Duties will include preparing time and resource estimates for projects, making recommendations for replacement and repair, preparing and painting surfaces, using and maintaining tools, driving service vehicles, supervising student painters, and assisting other trades.

• Parks Canada is a federal agency responsible for protecting and presenting Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas, and national historic sites in every region of the country. The Québec team watches over the historic treasures of the Fortifications of Québec, the Dufferin Terrace, and the archaeological crypt of the Forts and Châteaux Saint-Louis, Cartier-Brébeuf, the forts of Lévis and Grosse-Île.

Required experience and qualifications

Language Requirements
• French essential

Education

• Diploma of Vocational Studies in painting or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the field of painting. An acceptable combination is a completed high school diploma and a total of at least seven years of relevant experience in the fields mentioned in the “Experience” section.

Professional certification
• Hold a Journeyman competency certificate (JCC) issued by the Commission de la construction du Québec

Experience
• Five years of recent* and significant experience in specialized and diversified surface preparation and painting work, interior and exterior, in buildings, furniture and lettering on various surfaces such as wood, plaster, metal, gypsum, stone, etc. typically found on historic buildings. Acquired experience must also include work planning and job estimation in the above-mentioned fields.

*Recent experience means that the candidate’s most recent experience was in the past two years.
