🎯 Job Description
Kativik Ilisarniliriniq, the school board serving the 14 communities of Nunavik, is currently seeking two Inuktitut Language Translators. Reporting to the Secretary General, the selected candidates will be responsible for accurately translating educational materials—such as student and teacher documents and curriculum guides—into Inuktitut, across written, audio, and visual formats.
They may also be required to interpret during meetings to ensure effective communication between Inuktitut, English, and French. This role is a meaningful opportunity to support and promote the cultural and linguistic vitality of Nunavik while working from Montréal in a hybrid setting.
✅ Key Responsibilities
Translate educational content accurately for students and teachers (written, audio, and visual formats).
Interpret during meetings to support multilingual communication.
Ensure proper use of teaching-related terminology.
Meet deadlines and maintain high quality standards in all translations.
Required experience and qualifications
🧠 Qualifications
Certificate or diploma in translation and/or at least 2 years of relevant experience.
Fluency in written and spoken Inuktitut.
Fluency in English or French.
Familiarity with educational terminology.
Proficiency with office software (Adobe, Microsoft Word, Publishing).
Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
Willingness and ability to travel when required.
Note: The school board may waive some requirements for beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) who agree to follow a training plan established by the Board.
💰 Salary and Benefits
Annual salary: $47,137 to $75,591, based on qualifications and experience, in accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement (job category 2140).
