The Native Friendship Centre of Montreal (NFCM or ‘Centre’) is a non-profit, non-sectarian, autonomous community development agency, whose principal mission is to promote, develop and enhance the quality of life in the urban Indigenous community of Montreal.

ACCOUNTABILITY
The Executive Director of the Native Friendship Centre of Montreal is a key leadership role responsible for steering the overall vision, strategy, and impact of our organization. As a passionate and visionary leader, you will guide our team in achieving our mission, building strong community relationships, and ensuring the sustainability of the Centre’s initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis community members in the Montreal area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership:
Develop and execute a strategic plan that aligns with the Centre’s mission and goals.
Foster a culture of inclusivity and participation, where community members feel valued and heard in shaping the Centre’s initiatives
Develop and implement mechanisms for community input to ensure that programs and services align with the evolving needs and aspirations of the community.
Lead, motivate, and support a team of dedicated staff members.
Provide visionary leadership to inspire and guide staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation and mutual aid

Representation:
Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with community partners, government agencies, and other groups.
Act as the public face of the Centre, representing its values and mission.
Represent the Centre’s interests and advocate for community needs on local, regional, and national levels.
Collaborate with other organizations to advance shared goals and initiatives.

Operations:
Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of diverse community programs and services.
Closely support and oversee the Assistant Director’s management of efficient operations, including budget management, policy and procedure implementation, resource allocation, human resource management, and facility maintenance.
Monitor financial health, and develop and execute fundraising strategies to secure funding from grants, donations, and partnerships.

Governance:
Collaborate with the board of directors to develop organizational policies and procedures that align with legal requirements, best practices, and our mission.
Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and reporting requirements, and keep the board informed of any legal or regulatory changes.
Serve as a liaison between the executive leadership team and the board of directors, providing regular updates on organizational performance, financial health, and key initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual: reading, writing and oral interaction in both French and English; an Indigenous language is a strong asset;
An undergraduate degree or certificate in a related field or equivalent professional experience; a postgraduate degree or certificate is an asset.
Demonstrated experience in leadership and management roles, ideally within the Indigenous nonprofit sector.
Lived experience within an Indigenous community.
Strong understanding of community development principles and practices.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to build and sustain partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
Strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Knowledge and understanding of financial literacy and expertise in effectively managing organizational financial assets.
