POSITION: COMMUNITY CULTURAL FACILITATOR
PROJECT: Kaie:ri:nikawera:ke Day Centre
LENGTH: SEPTEMBER 2023 – 31 DECEMBER 2025
CONDITIONS: PART-TIME (20 hr/week)

The Native Friendship Centre of Montreal (NFCM or ‘Centre’) is a non-profit, non-sectarian, autonomous community organization
whose principal mission is to promote, develop and enhance the quality of life in the urban Indigenous community of Montreal. We are
currently seeking a highly qualified individual to assume the position of the Community Cultural Facilitator.

ACCOUNTABILITY
Under the supervision of the Kaie:ri:nikawera:ke Day Centre’s Program Coordinator and the Community Cultural Organizer, the
Community Cultural Facilitator will facilitate cultural understanding and engagement within the community and foster connections with
Indigenous participants. The Community Cultural Facilitator will be expected to work within a trauma-informed framework while
maintaining a culturally-inclusive and appropriate practice.

QUALIFICATIONS
● 2 years of experience working in a similar role;
● Bilingual (English and French); an Indigenous language is a strong asset;
● Knowledge of Indigenous peoples, including histories, cultural differences, and contemporary realities;
● Strong knowledge of local network of Indigenous Elders, knowledge keepers, and community leaders;
● Able to actively participate in various program activities requiring physical exertion;
● Ability to work with minimal supervision with strong time management skills;
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
● Diplomacy, tact and judgement;
● Problem solving and conflict resolution skills;

RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties/responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
● Implement and facilitate programs and workshops to educate community members about Indigenous culture, traditions, and
history.
● Provide support and guidance to community members in preserving and revitalizing cultural practices, including language,
arts, crafts, storytelling, and traditional ceremonies.
● Facilitate intergenerational knowledge sharing and mentorship programs to ensure the transmission of cultural knowledge.
● Foster positive relationships with Elders, knowledge keepers, and cultural leaders within the urban Indigenous community
● Collaborate with community members and partner organizations to develop initiatives that support the celebration and
promotion of Indigenous culture.
● Support the logistics of different activities as indicated by the Community Organizer
● Assist in the development of cultural protocols, guidelines, and culturally-appropriate policies within the Centret.
● Maintain accurate records and reports of cultural activities, initiatives, and outcomes for evaluation and reporting purposes.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/HOURS
The work schedule is part-time (20 hours per week) with flexibility as required during the day, evenings and weekends. Hourly rate of
$25/hr. Attendance at events, meetings, training, and workshops is mandatory.
