The position at a glance

The NA GMO Controls & Regulatory Oversight ITO Tax Operations department is responsible for establishing operational procedures and controls to comply with IRS, FATCA, and AEOI regulations relating to US tax information reporting. ITO Tax Operations governs the maintenance of tax documentation (e.g. Forms W-8 and W-9, CRS self-certifications), withholding and remittance of taxes to US Treasury, and issuance of annual 1099, 1042-S, 945, 1042 reporting to both external clients and the IRS. The group collaborates with BNP Paribas Corporate Tax to assess the impact of new tax legislative, and engages with transversal resources to develop plans to respond and/or comply with new regulations. To the extent a new business process is required; ITO Tax Operations develops business requirements and ensures that IT and operational procedures are enhanced to support regulatory change. The team is highly collaborative internally across BNP Paribas Corporate Institutional Banking Americas and externally with clients within the Bank. ITO Tax Operations covers multiple business lines, functions, and regions within various BNP Paribas entities.

In detail

Monitor client on-boarding and ensure that required tax documents are received
Validate tax forms using internal guidelines and IRS approved MD3 software
Manage client data and update tax information in internal onboarding repository systems
Assist with annual solicitation of expiring tax documents
Support development of technical business requirements and UAT of application enhancements
Provide support for internal and external audits
Correspond with internal BNP Paribas divisions such as Due Diligence, Client Onboarding, and Static Data to assist with resolving client inquires and concerns
Adhere to regulatory changes by working with business and IT groups to enhance systems and procedures
Assist with production of year end 1099 and 1042-S reporting
Support incoming front office and client inquiries and regarding 1099 and 1042-S reporting, and assist with amending 1099 and 1042-S forms which require corrections
Investigate IRS notices and penalties, providing research used to draft responses submitted to the IRS

Required experience and qualifications

BA required
Knowledge of the English language is required
Proficient computer skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office Access, Excel and/or other business related software programs.
Quick learner, taking detailed notes as references
Driven by client needs and satisfaction
Proactive, motivated and willing to absorb new concepts
Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem solving skills
Proven ability to act under pressure and tight deadlines
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

1-3 years of tax information reporting, withholding, tax documentation management experience in the financial services industry, or transferrable tax related knowledge and skills
Strong knowledge and comprehension of Internal Revenue Codes Chapter 3, Chapter 4, and Chapter 61
Knowledge of Broadridge systems/products such as BPS, TMS (Tax Managed Services) and TDS (Tax Data Solutions)
Experience validating client tax docs (Forms W-8 series, Forms W-9), and updating back office static data and referential data systems
Strong team player with well-developed written and verbal communication skills
Control orientated mindset and approach to managing business as usual work tasks
Advanced Microsoft Excel experience and skills
Ability to perform multiple tasks and meet established deadlines in a fast pace work environment with minimal supervision.
Solutions oriented thinker who is able to generate creative ideas
Effective analytical, organizational, and problem resolution skills
Knowledge of FATCA would be great.
