The Kahnawà:ke Offender Reintegration Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the federal parole supervision and provincial probation of offenders, ensuring safe reintegration into the community. This position involves developing and maintaining protocols, rehabilitation programs, and collaborating with both internal and external government entities. The role will contribute significantly to the community safety and offender rehabilitation process within Kahnawà:ke.
Responsibilities
Federal Parole Supervision:
- Supervise felons released from prison under Correctional Services Canada mandates within Kahnawà:ke.
- Perform advanced parole administration and supervision, reviewing and approving parole activities and plans.
- Coordinate case assignments, perform case analyses, and ensure offender compliance.
- Monitor alcohol and drug testing, perform criminal information searches, and make recommendations to the court regarding parole conditions.
- Provide technical guidance and training to Public Safety staff.
Provincial Probation Supervision:
- Develop and implement agreements with the Ministère de la Justice du Québec for Kahnawà:ke’s jurisdiction over provincial probation.
- Conduct information sessions for local courts, detention centers, and correctional facilities regarding probation services in Kahnawà:ke.
- Supervise offenders according to established agreements and assess their social reintegration success.
Court of Kahnawà:ke Probation Supervision:
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols for probation supervision according to Kahnawà:ke justice system criteria.
- Supervise probation individuals according to protocols or agreements.
Community Reintegration Team:
- Participate as a member of the Community Reintegration Team, conducting intake assessments, liaising with halfway houses, and attending parole hearings.
Required experience and qualifications
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, Social Work, or relevant field with one (1) year of relevant experience, OR
- DEC in Social Science with three (3) years of relevant experience, OR
- High School Diploma with five (5) years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of external governments and First Nations legal and social issues.
- Understanding of Corrections Canada’s Criminal Release Program specific to Aboriginal Corrections.
- Knowledge of Quebec probation operations and standards.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Supervisory skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
- Proficiency in office systems technology and various computer programs.
- Additional Skills:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information.
- Ability to speak Kanien’kéha and French is an asset.
- Willingness to learn the Kanien’kéha language.
