Your day-to-day
* Provide advisory services to First Nations in the collaborative process of developing a guide to Indigenous Protected Area (IPAs) status. This process is carried out in collaboration with the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP). At the same time, you ensure that the objectives of the committees set up to carry out this process are met.
Main responsibilities
* Provide advice to First Nations and collaborators involved in the establishment and management of First Nations-led protected areas.
* Develop efficient tools or procedures to support the smooth operation of the collaborative structures to be set up
* Work with MELCCFP to draft a guide to APIA status and validate and provide feedback to First Nations.
* Produce other documentation related to this project
* Develop and maintain close collaboration between First Nations communities and organizations, the MELCCFP and other stakeholders.
* Ensure effective monitoring of the stages in the collaborative development process
* Act as a resource person on protected areas for the organization, putting your expertise at everyone’s service
Required experience and qualifications
Do you have what it takes?
* Minimum 7 years’ relevant experience working with First Nations or Indigenous organizations in a resource and land protection context
* Combination of experience and college or university training in the fields of environment, conservation, law or politics
* High level of knowledge of provincial conservation tools
* High level of knowledge of First Nations issues, priorities, perspectives and aspirations related to the establishment, management and enhancement of protected areas.
* Available to travel to communities across Quebec
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English
* Knowledge of an Indigenous language (an asset)
