Job Description
The Mechanic will provide professional mechanic services for the Town Garage operations, maintaining and repairing vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure their safe and efficient operation.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform regular maintenance and repairs on MCK-owned cars, trucks, heavy and light equipment, school buses, emergency vehicles, and safety equipment.
- Assess damage, identify repair requirements, and perform repairs to ensure mechanical soundness.
- Conduct on-site repairs to heavy equipment as needed.
- Keep accurate records of work performed and ensure all repairs meet SAAQ inspection requirements.
Advisory and Procurement Support
- Provide advice on the acquisition of vehicles, parts, and tools to improve efficiency.
- Research and recommend new tools and technologies for the garage.
- Troubleshoot mechanical problems and propose cost-effective solutions.
Other Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with MCK policies and procedures.
- Perform additional job-related duties as required by the supervisor.
Required experience and qualifications
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- DEP in Mechanics (vehicles and heavy equipment) + 3 years of relevant experience with certification as a “Certified Vehicle & Heavy Equipment Inspector.”
OR - High School Diploma + vocational studies in mechanics + 5 years of relevant experience with certification as a “Certified Vehicle & Heavy Equipment Inspector.”
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of mechanical operations, repair techniques, and part pricing for vehicles and equipment.
- Proficiency in inspection and certification processes.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work independently.
- Must possess a valid Quebec Driver’s License.
- Ability to communicate in Kanien’kéha and French is an asset.
- Willingness to learn Kanien’kéha is required.
Working Environment
- Garage environment with a five-day workweek (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.).
- Occasional overtime for emergency responses.
- Exposure to hazardous situations and inclement weather.
- Moderate stress due to workload.
