Victims Support Worker
Job description
🎯 Overview:
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is seeking a Victims Support Worker for a 12-month full-time contract. This role provides direct emotional and technical support to individuals who have experienced crime, while helping them navigate court processes and access services.
✅ Responsibilities:
Front-Line Support
Provide short-term crisis intervention and emotional support.
Offer referrals and coordinate transitions to external service providers.
Prepare clients for courtroom proceedings and accompany them during hearings.
Liaise with peacekeepers, legal professionals, and justice system stakeholders.
Information & Advocacy
Educate clients on their rights, legal remedies, and court procedures.
Assist with public education and training initiatives.
Track and report service usage statistics.
Serve as backup to the Victims Advocacy Worker.
Technical Assistance
Support clients in completing documentation related to victim rights and services.
Help access file updates and legal status through justice institutions.
Participate as a technical resource in Justice Commission meetings.
💰 Salary: $51,831.00 to $58,539.00 per year
📅 Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (37.5 hours/week)

Required experience and qualifications
⭐ Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminology, or related field with 1 year of experience,
OR DEC in a related field with 3 years of relevant experience.Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
Knowledge of victims’ rights, court systems, and local justice frameworks.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Respect for confidentiality and ability to work in sensitive, emotionally charged environments.
Bilingualism (Kanien’kéha/French) is an asset; willingness to learn Kanien’kéha encouraged.
