Victims Support Worker
Job description
🎯 Description: The Victims Support Worker provides support services to Kahnawa’kehró:non identifying as victims of crime, including psychosocial support, court preparation and accompaniment, referrals to specialized services, and technical assistance. This role also provides information on victims’ rights, remedies, and court processes, while acting as a technical resource for the Kahnawà:ke Justice Commission.
✅ Roles & Responsibilities:
Front-Line Support Services:
Provide immediate crisis intervention and emotional support.
Refer clients to specialized third-party services and ensure smooth transitions.
Offer courtroom orientation and accompany clients to court hearings.
Liaise between clients, Kahnawake Mohawk Peacekeepers, prosecutors, and other justice participants.
Provide psychosocial support during court processes.
Information on Victims’ Rights:
Respond to questions on victims’ rights, remedies, and court processes.
Provide legal information on the law, available options, and the operation of the legal system.
Assist in developing and delivering public education and training initiatives.
Act as backup to the Victims Advocacy Worker for education and advocacy activities.
Track and report yearly statistics on clients served and services referred.
Technical Support:
Assist clients with preparing and submitting documentation for exercising rights and accessing services.
Provide information on the progress of clients’ files through the criminal justice process.
Act as a technical resource and participate in Kahnawà:ke Justice Commission meetings.
💰 Salary: $996.75 – $1,345.88 per week (37.5 hours/week)
Required experience and qualifications
⭐ Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminology, or related field, plus 1 year relevant experience
ORDEC in social work or related field, plus 3 years relevant experience
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Knowledge of victims’ rights, remedies, and court processes
Knowledge of Kahnawà:ke justice programs and applicable legislation
Strong judgment, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
Planning, time management, and organizational skills
Professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
Ability to communicate in Kanien’kéha and French is an asset; willingness to learn Kanien’kéha
