Your Role
MMBC is looking for an experienced Director of Finance with strong leadership skills to support the General Manager and the Finance and Audit Committee.
As MMBC expands and accelerates growth, we need a solid financial leader who can provide strategic financial data and tools to support decision-making for our future projects.
Your Responsibilities
📊 Financial Planning & Strategy
✔ Oversee MMBC’s financial planning and forecasting.
✔ Develop an in-depth understanding of MMBC’s business model and the legal and economic frameworks of Indigenous development projects.
✔ Provide strategic financial projections and recommendations to guide MMBC’s priorities, projects, and investments.
✔ Identify business opportunities and investment funds that benefit the Mi’gmaq.
✔ Assess and mitigate financial risks to ensure the economic stability of MMBC and its limited partnerships.
✔ Conduct financial analyses of potential business acquisitions and investment opportunities.
✔ Collaborate with senior management to protect assets, financial data, and financial management systems.
📑 Financial Management
✔ Prepare and monitor the annual budget.
✔ Ensure revenue targets are met and cash flow remains stable.
✔ Track the financial performance of MMBC’s limited partnerships.
✔ Supervise the accounting clerk and finance team, overseeing their training and professional development.
✔ Prepare quarterly financial statements and present them to senior management.
✔ Provide all required documentation and financial data to the external auditing firm for the annual financial statements and report findings to senior management and the Finance and Audit Committee.
✔ Identify and address financial and accounting risks that may impact MMBC.
✔ Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), corporate financial policies, and relevant laws and regulations.
Required experience and qualifications
What We’re Looking For
✅ CPA designation
✅ Proven experience as a finance director or in a similar role
✅ B.Sc./B.A. in accounting, finance, or a related field (MSc/MBA is an asset)
✅ Knowledge of business law and risk management best practices
✅ Strong background in financial analysis and strategic forecasting
✅ Proficiency in MS Office and financial management software
✅ Strategic thinker with strong leadership skills
✅ Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
✅ Experience in Indigenous economic development (strong asset)
✅ Fluent in both English and French, spoken and written
