Cégep Heritage College, the only English-language public college in the National Capital Region, is seeking a part-time Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDI+B) Officer (professional position) to join its team for a 2-year special project, with the possibility of extension. The EDI+B Officer will play a key role in providing guidance, recommendations, and expertise in EDI, human rights, anti-racism, anti-oppression, and accessibility initiatives. Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, this newly created position will promote and lead the implementation of EDI+B strategies and action plans in line with the College’s strategic goals. The EDI+B Officer will also work closely with the management team to foster a positive work culture, support the organization’s achievements, and enhance staff well-being.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert advice in the design and implementation of multi-year EDI+B and accessibility strategies and action plans across the organization, with both short and long-term objectives.
- Coordinate and guide all EDI+B efforts, identifying opportunities to integrate EDI+B into college activities, policies, and processes.
- Advise the management team to help them meet EDI+B goals by offering relevant expertise, data, and guidance on accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion matters.
- Collaborate with HR and other departments to gather, investigate, and assess information related to requests for accommodation, reported incidents of discrimination or harassment, and other EDI+B concerns, ensuring alignment with college policies.
- Lead the implementation of confidential surveys for staff and students, and design measures to provide management with the necessary insights to support a diverse workforce inclusively.
- Develop and maintain EDI+B and anti-racism training and education programs to promote awareness and understanding of systemic discrimination across the organization.
- Serve on committees focusing on equity, accessibility, diversity, and inclusion.
- Facilitate open, insightful discussions that advance EDI+B work within a safe space.
Required experience and qualifications
Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in a related field such as law, human rights, equity, social sciences, or education, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience in a professional EDI+B role, including the development, leadership, and execution of EDI+B strategies and initiatives, along with workplace training programs.
- Proven ability to collaborate with senior leaders to drive meaningful organizational change with measurable outcomes.
- Experience designing and leading EDI+B programs and supporting professional learning for staff and students.
- Prior experience in a non-profit EDI+B environment, preferably within a unionized context, is considered an asset.
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of equity, accessibility, intersectionality, anti-racism, decolonization, and anti-oppression principles, along with applicable legislation in Quebec.
- Deep knowledge of systemic barriers and the experiences of Indigenous Peoples and equity-seeking groups.
- Demonstrated expertise in program evaluation, research methods, and process development.
- Ability to work at strategic, policy, and operational levels, with a clear vision of how equity contributes to organizational success.
- Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and mediation skills, with the ability to approach sensitive topics tactfully and confidentially.
- Collaborative team player with proven decision-making capabilities that reflect diverse viewpoints and approaches.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Exceptional research and analysis skills to anticipate, assess, and plan for long-term strategic and resource needs.
- Strong written, oral communication, and presentation skills, particularly in engaging diverse audiences.
- Sound judgment, tact, and political acumen for handling sensitive topics and maintaining effective relationships.
Salary:
Minimum $54,661 to a maximum of $100,282 per year.
