Job description

Description:
Under the supervision of the Manager of Field Science, the Environmental Technician will conduct field inspections, assessments, sampling, monitoring, and reporting to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, policies, and agreements. This role involves monitoring activities that may impact the environment within the community.

Salary:
$979.13 to $1,105.88 per week (Based on experience)
Hours of Operation:
8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Hours per Week:
37.5 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct environmental site assessments, inspections, and sampling for land transactions and other activities as required.
  • Investigate reports of environmental impacts, including contamination, hazardous spills, and alterations to natural areas.
  • Conduct regular patrols and monitor permitted businesses and activities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Maintain a detailed database of all inspections, assessments, and samples collected.
  • Participate in groundwater and surface water quality monitoring programs.
  • Act as a field monitor for projects to ensure appropriate environmental mitigation.
  • Engage in training, conferences, and community events related to environmental protection.

Required experience and qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: DEC in Environmental Science or related field, with one year of relevant experience; or High School Diploma with three years of related experience.
  • Skills:
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
    • Technical knowledge and ability to conduct thorough field assessments.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to take detailed field notes.
    • Good physical condition for fieldwork and ability to work in varying weather conditions.
    • Knowledge of the Kahnawà

      Territory and environmental issues affecting the community.

    • Ability to communicate in Kanien’kéha and French is an asset.
    • Valid driver’s license required.
