Environmental Projects Coordinator – Invasive Species
Organization: Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke – Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO)
Location: Kahnawà:ke, QC
Employment Type: Full-time, Fixed-term (44 weeks)
Salary: $1,119.75 to $1,264.88 per week
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (37.5 hours/week)

Job Summary
The Environmental Projects Coordinator – Invasive Species is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing projects that support environmental protection and awareness in Kahnawà:ke and Tioweró:ton. The role focuses on invasive species monitoring and management, including coordinating field activities, engaging the community, managing budgets, and providing technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination and Management
Identify, design, and implement environmental projects related to surface water, wildlife, terrestrial habitats, and more.
Prepare funding proposals, project budgets, and manage schedules.
Work closely with consultants, stakeholders, and community members.
Maintain organized project documentation and ensure compliance with objectives.
Invasive Species Strategy and Implementation
Develop and implement a long-term invasive species management strategy.
Coordinate surveys, data collection, and remediation efforts.
Build and maintain a community-wide invasive species database.
Lead public awareness initiatives and collaborate with regional partners.
Environmental Expertise and Policy Support
Review proposed projects or activities that may impact the environment.
Prepare recommendations, reports, and briefing notes for the MCK and other stakeholders.
Support the development of policies aligned with best environmental practices.
Required experience and qualifications
Qualifications
Education & Experience (one of the following):
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field + 1 year of relevant experience
DEC in Environmental Science or a related field + 3 years of relevant experience
High School Diploma + 5 years of relevant experience
Required Skills and Knowledge:
Solid understanding of local environmental issues in Kahnawà:ke and Tioweró:ton
Strong research, writing, organizational, and computer skills
Public speaking and community engagement abilities
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
Knowledge of GIS is a strong asset
Familiarity with environmental regulations and policies
Ability to lead consultants and supervise summer students
Sensitivity to community values and cultural awareness
Bilingualism (English and French or Kanien’kéha) is an asset
Willingness to work overtime and participate in fieldwork
Working Conditions
Combination of office and field work in varying weather conditions
Occasional travel and moderate overtime required
Moderate workload stress and deadlines
