Kativik Ilisarniliriniq (KI) is a school board dedicated to providing educational services in the 14 communities of Nunavik. We are seeking an Education Consultant to lead the development and teaching of a Translator/Interpreter Training Program tailored to the unique needs of Nunavik.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and teach courses in Inuktitut and English.
  • Establish and maintain a communication network with prospective translators.
  • Promote the program and profession to recruit new candidates for training.
  • Develop a network of resource people to act as consultants or instructors for the program.
  • Create and manage a Resource Centre for translators and resource people.
  • Design a curriculum adapted to Nunavik’s needs, including selecting content, creating original learning materials, and planning learning activities.
  • Assess and select candidates using adapted evaluation tools.
  • Organize and supervise in-service training sessions based on a work-study model.

Required experience and qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (education, translation, interpretation, or adult education).
  • Excellent proficiency in Inuktitut (oral and written).
  • Strong knowledge of English (oral and written).
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Translator/Interpreter in Nunavik.

Note: The Board may waive certain qualifications for candidates who are beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who agree to follow a training program determined by the Board.

Salary:
$49,456 to $92,027 annually, based on experience and qualifications, as per the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals.
