Job description
🎯 Summary:
The Chief of Police provides leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the Listuguj Police Department (LPD). This role is responsible for ensuring public safety, enforcing laws, and maintaining strong community relationships. The Chief of Police ensures that high-quality and timely policing services are delivered in accordance with LMG expectations and applicable governmental regulations.
✅ Job Duties:
Oversee all operations of the LPD and support staff, ensuring efficiency and compliance with laws and policies.
Develop and implement Council-approved policing policies, procedures, training programs, and operational directives adapted to the cultural and local realities of the community.
Identify training needs for LPD officers; design, select, deliver and evaluate training programs.
Manage budgets, funding applications, and resource allocation.
Ensure compliance with the Québec Police Officers Code of Ethics and enforce disciplinary regulations, including handling conduct complaints.
Guarantee continuous, timely, and consistent policing services to the community.
Ensure compliance with reporting requirements at the local, provincial, and federal levels.
Oversee the proper registration of information with the CRPQ according to established procedures.
Liaise with neighboring police services and ensure operational cooperation with Québec police authorities.

Required experience and qualifications
⭐ Requirements:
Extensive law enforcement experience, with strong understanding of Indigenous policing.
At least ten (10) years of experience as a Police Officer.
Relevant experience in police service management.
High School Diploma or equivalent recognized by Québec authorities.
Diploma from ENPQ in police management (or recognized equivalency).
Canadian citizenship.
Good moral character with no disqualifying criminal convictions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; working knowledge of French and Mi’gmaq.
Proven professionalism and ability to operate in a complex environment.
Additional Requirements:
Must pass background checks and meet required certifications.
Valid 4A driver’s license; ability to travel as required.
Firearms certification.
Mandatory pre-employment drug screening.
Ability to pass a criminal background check.
